What it actually does

Three things that matter when a dog gets tired in water.

Not features for the sake of a bullet list. These are the parts you notice on the day something goes sideways.

The chin float does the quiet work

Under the neck sits a buoyant collar designed to help keep your dog's head above the surface. The head is the first thing to drop when a dog tires in water, and the hardest thing to lift once it does.

Support where it runs out first.

A handle, not a hope

A reinforced strap runs across the back, sewn to be grabbed. Lifting a soaking wet dog out of a pool or over the side of a boat stops being a wrestle with a panicking animal and starts being one clean motion.

Something solid to reach for.

Harbor Hound SafeSwim dog life jacket in Fluorescent Green

Easy to spot in glare, chop and fading light

High-visibility colourways with reflective piping on all four sides. Whichever way your dog is turned, something is catching the light — across a busy pool, a choppy lake, or a dock at dusk.

You find them faster because you can see them.

Pick a colour

Bright isn't a style choice. It's how you find them.

Every colourway carries reflective piping on all four sides. Pick the one you like, or the one that stands out most against the water you actually swim in.

Tap a colourway to load it into the size picker below.

Get the fit right

Sized by chest, not by weight.

Two dogs the same weight can be shaped completely differently. Measure the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs, and match that number to the table.

Size Chest (girth) Typical weight Example breeds Price
XS 13–18" 5–15 lbs Chihuahua, Yorkie, Maltese $44.95
S 18–24" 15–30 lbs French Bulldog, Pug, Dachshund $49.95
M 24–31" 30–55 lbs Corgi, Basset Hound, Border Collie $54.95
L 30–37" 55–85 lbs Bulldog, Boxer, Labrador $59.95
XL 35–45" 85–120 lbs Bernese, Newfoundland, Great Dane $64.95

Swipe the table sideways to see every column.

  1. Run a soft tape around the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs. Snug, not tight.
  2. Match that measurement to the chest column. Between two sizes, size up.
  3. Fasten the neck, chest and belly straps so two fingers slide flat under each one. Re-check before every outing.

Straps adjust at the neck, chest and belly, so there is real room to fine-tune inside each size.

A life jacket adds flotation and makes your dog easier to see and reach. It is a safety aid, not a guarantee, and it cannot prevent drowning. Always supervise your dog in and around water.

Before you buy

The questions we'd ask.

Will this teach my dog to swim?

No. It adds flotation and support — it doesn't make a dog a swimmer. Start in shallow water, stay in the water with them, and let them get used to the feeling of the jacket before you go anywhere deep.

My dog is between two sizes. Which one?

Size up. The neck, chest and belly straps take up slack, so a slightly larger jacket adjusts down comfortably. A jacket that's slightly too small has nowhere to go.

Is it Coast Guard approved?

No, and we won't put a badge on the page pretending otherwise. The SafeSwim is a flotation aid: it adds buoyancy, makes your dog easier to see, and gives you a handle to lift them with. We'd rather tell you exactly what it does than dress it up.

How do I wash it?

Rinse with fresh water after salt or chlorine. Machine wash cold on gentle, then hang to dry. Don't tumble dry, bleach, or iron it.

Will it fit a deep-chested or short-legged dog?

That's exactly why it's sized by chest girth rather than weight, and why there are three separate adjustment points. Measure the widest part of the chest just behind the front legs and go from that number, not from the breed.

What does shipping cost?

Free on orders over $49. Below that, standard rates are calculated at checkout before you pay.

Where are the reviews?

There aren't any yet, and we're not going to invent some. Harbor Hound is new. When real customers write in, their words will go here with their names attached — not before.

More adventures. Less worry.

Summer is short. Spend it watching, not worrying.

Your dog won't know they're wearing it. You'll know exactly where they are, and you'll have a handle in your hand if you ever need one.

A life jacket is a safety aid, not a substitute for supervision. It adds flotation and makes your dog easier to see and reach. It does not guarantee your dog's safety and cannot prevent drowning. Stay close, check strap tension before every outing, and never leave your dog unattended in or near water.
